Rating Appeal for Prezzo
Background
DWD are instructed to manage and appeal the business rate liability for Prezzo Restaurants across the UK.
Challenge
Our client has a ground and first floor restaurant with basement level kitchen facilities which are assessed for business rates purposes. Our review of the assessment suggested that the areas for the restaurant space assessed were incorrect as well as the price per square metre applied to the valuation.
DWD Service
Ed Wiltshire, a member of the DWD Business Rates Team, conducted a full measured survey of the unit and submitted an appeal to the Valuation Office arguing the Rateable Value should be reduced to account for the survey data errors.
Outcome
The Valuation Office accepted our proposal and reduced the Rateable Value of the property. This generated savings for our client of c.£26,000 over the course of the 2017 List.
Based on the rent paid on the subject property and appeal settlements on nearby restaurants, a further appeal is outstanding with regards to the appropriate price per metre to be adopted in the valuation.
