EXPERIENCE
Big Yellow Self Storage, Camberwell
DWD acted for Big Yellow Self Storage to secure planning permission for a self storage centre and flexi-office scheme on Southampton Way, Camberwell.
The consented development incorporates around 8,500sqm of self storage space (including mezzanine floors) and 2,000sqm of flexi-offices, designed to accommodate small businesses and start-ups.
DWD led the preparation of the planning application, undertook consultation, prepared the Planning Statement and reviewed and coordinated the other application documents. This involved close working with London Borough of Southwark to negotiate a scheme which is acceptable in planning terms.
Throughout the determination period DWD engaged with the case officer, responded to comments raised by consultees, advised on planning conditions and oversaw the preparation of the s106 legal agreement to enable planning permission to be successfully granted in April 2018.
Key issues included the impact on an adjacent Grade II listed building and employment land use issues. The site was allocated for employment uses, but is within an area that is experiencing considerable recent change, including an emerging allocation for employment-led mixed use and an adjoining industrial estate that is subject to a residential-led mixed use proposal.
