EXPERIENCE
Big Yellow Self Storage, Battersea
DWD is acting for Big Yellow Self Storage in relation to their proposals for a mixed use development at the corner of York Road and Lombard Road, Battersea. The scheme includes a self storage centre, offices, artist’s studios, retail and food and drink uses and around 180 residential units, in a building of up to 20 storeys.
DWD are currently working closely with the project team, advising on the planning strategy and negotiating with London Borough of Wandsworth to prepare a scheme which is acceptable in planning terms. This has included close liaison with the architects, technical and political advisors.
DWD are leading the preparation of the planning application, preparing the Planning Statement and reviewing and coordinating the other application documents. This has included advice on CIL and likely S106 contributions.
Key issues include the impact on adjacent residential properties and townscape justification for a tall residential building. The area within which the site is located is subject to a significant number of applications, including many for tall buildings, and our role has included understanding the emerging local context and advising on its impact on future development in the area.
The scheme is evolving through discussions with London Borough of Wandsworth and the scheme shown is one which was subject to public consultation in Summer 2016.
