EXPERIENCE
Gretton School, South Cambridge
At the school’s main site, we advised on opportunities to utilise the permitted development rights that are in place for schools. Our advice allowed the school to deliver a two storey infill extension, providing a new reception area and a glazed canopy over an existing courtyard, to provide an enclosed dining area for students. We secured a Certificate of Lawfulness, from South Cambridgeshire District Council to confirm that the works were lawful and could be implemented under Class M, Part 7 of the General Permitted Development (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 (as amended).
At the same site we also secured planning permission for alterations to the site’s access and car park, to provide additional parking spaces for staff.
Gretton School acquired a second site in Girton, which is a Grade II listed building. Internal and external alterations were required to facilitate the school’s use and meet the needs of their students. The required works included external plant and associated equipment, installation of security fencing and gates in the site’s grounds and removal and replacement of an external fire escape. The works were phased over two years, and DWD submitted two applications for planning permission and listed building consent, to secure approval from South Cambridgeshire District Council for the works.
