DWD Secure Planning Permission for Hydrogen Production Facility in Bradford

Infrastructure & Energy

DWD is pleased to have acted as lead planning consultant and supported Renewable Connections to secure planning permission on behalf of Hygen and N-Gen for one of the UK’s largest, state-of-the-art hydrogen production facilities to be located in Bradford.  Bradford Metropolitan District Council have recently given the go ahead for the construction of a hydrogen production and refuelling facility located on the old Birkshall gas storage site on Bowling Back Lane in the City.

The facility will produce low carbon hydrogen via electrolysis which can be used to fuel hydrogen buses, heavy goods vehicles and cars at the site or delivered to industrial customers across West Yorkshire.

DWD led on the planning from the pre-application stage all the way through to determination including EIA Screening and the engagement with the Council during the determination period.

The facility has the capacity to produce approximately 12.5 tonnes of hydrogen per day – enough to power approximately 800 buses. The project is the largest of its kind to be awarded funding through the government’s Hydrogen Production Business Model and a first of its kind development for the City of Bradford.
