KIA Motors UK, Brentford

DWD secured planning permission in 2013 for a 4,000 sqm flagship motor showroom spread over four floors, including café and decked vehicle display and parking, for KIA Motors UK on the Great West Road in Brentford, adjacent to the elevated section of the M4 on the approach to central London. The dealership is Europe’s largest KIA showroom.

DWD worked closely with the scheme architects during the pre-application discussions with the London Borough of Hounslow so as to reach agreement with officers on the design of the showroom building and demonstrate that it would not have a harmful impact upon the nearby Gunnersbury Park Conservation Area.  DWD also advised on the local planning authority’s policies relating to employment, energy and sustainability.

DWD co-ordinated the planning application submission and took the lead in discussions with the local planning authority and statutory consultees such as Transport for London (TfL), including in relation to the Section 106 agreement. DWD successfully negotiated a significant reduction in the transport contributions being sought by TfL and advised on the implications of the Community Infrastructure Levy for the scheme. In addition, DWD assisted in the discharge of planning conditions and secure approval for a number of amendments to the scheme.
