DWD is delighted to have secured planning permission on behalf of Greenfield and Renewable Power Capital (RPC) for the development of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility on land at Old Wallace Farm, Dyffryn, Cardiff.
The BESS facility will have the capacity of up to 49.9 Megawatts and has the potential to power up to 75,000 homes for two hours as well as achieve estimated minimum carbon savings across its life cycle of 1.2 million tonnes of CO2.
DWD led on the planning application from the pre-application stage all the way through to the application being considered at Planning Committee including EIA Screening and the engagement with the Council during the determination period.
DWD worked closely with Greenfield to coordinate the design of the proposed development, to ensure the visual impacts were minimal and to provide solutions to key potential impacts including visual, drainage and transport. The BESS will provide a contribution towards helping to decarbonise the UK’s electricity system by 2030 through energy storage during peak times, improved grid reliability. It will also provide an enhancement in biodiversity through planting. The development is illustrated in the CGI visual of the site below, which boasts enhanced planting and will deliver improved ecological value to the Site.
Resolution to grant planning permission was given a strong majority by the Vale of Glamorgan Planning Committee on the 15th of May 2025 and a decision notice issued on 16 May 2025.
